[p. 1] The General Assembly of Maryland on Wednesday the
24th. Day of November 1784 went into the Choice of a Governor and
unanimously rechose William Paca Esquire. His Excellency qualified
the same Day in the Senate House in Presence of the Members of the
General Assembly by taking the several Oaths required by the Consti-
tution and Form of Government, and the Laws of this State, and by
making and subscribing a Declaration of his Belief in the Christian
Religion.
On Thursday following being the 25th. Day of the same Month
the General Assembly elected Charles Wallace, Aquila Paca, John
Davidson, John Hoskins Stone and Samuel Turbutt Wright Esquires
to be the Council to the Governor.
Saturday 27th. November 1784
Charles Wallace, Aquila Paca and John Davidson Esquires, elected
Members of the Council to the Governor attended, and severally
qualified before William Hyde Esquire one of the Justices of Anne
Arundel County, by making, repeating and subscribing a Declaration
of their Belief in the Christian Religion, and taking, repeating, and
subscribing the several Oaths required by the Constitution and Form
of Government and the Laws of this State, a Certificate thereof filed.
Mr. Thomas Johnson Junior appointed Clerk of the Council, and
a Certificate of his Qualification produced and filed.
Mr. Jubb Fowler appointed Messenger.
Commission issued to William Somervill appointed one of the
Coroners for St. Mary's County.
A Petition from Hugh Grant of Baltimore County, was laid before
the Board setting forth, that he is a Prisoner at Large under Bail in
consequence of a Fine for selling or retailing Spiritous Liquors with-
out License, and that he is an infirm person near eighty Years of Age,
and a large Family of Children from whom their distressed Parents
can receive no support, and that he was actuated by no other motive
than supporting his poor Family, and to prevent them from becoming
burthensome to the County in which he resides, and four of the
Justices of the said County having recommended a remission of said
fine. The Board taking the same into Consideration are of Opinion
that the said fine be remitted, and do order a Remission accordingly.
