thousand pounds of tobacco which to him he oweth & unjustly
detaineth
And whereupon the said Robert Dowlan by Robert Ridgely his
Attorney saith, that whereas the said John Blomfield the twelfth
day of March One thousand six hundred Seventy seven together
with the said Robert Dowlan by certaine Articles of Agreemt Sealed
with the Seales of as well the said John Blomfield as the said Robert
Dowlan & bearing date the day & yeare aforesaid, & interchangably
Sealed & delivered from either to other, which part sealed with the
Seale of the said John is here in Court by the said Robert produced,
by which itt is wittnessed that the said Robert for & in considera-
tion of three hundred pounds of tobacco & caske to be paid by him
the said John, did there by Covenant promise grant & agree to &
with the said John to serve him the said John in such imployment
as he the said Robert is or should be capable of from the day of
the date of the same Articles of Agreemt untill the last day of Octo-
ber next ensuing the date of those prsents fully to be compleat &
ended In consideracofi whereof he the said John did thereby Cove-
nant promise & grant & agree to finde & allow the said Robert suffi-
cient meat drink washing and lodging dureing the said terme And
also pay to the said Robert the sume of three hundred pounds of
tobacco p month. And further that the said Robert should & might
haue the priviledge of a ffreeman as to buying bartering & dealing
with any person within this Province, any Law or Act of Assembly
to the contrary notwithstanding, for the true performance whereof
the said Robert & John did thereby binde themselves each to other
in the sume of three thousand pounds of tobacco as by the same
Articles of Agreemt relation being thereunto had more fully itt
doth & may appeare And the said Robert saith, that although he
hath fullfilled & performed all & singuler the Covenants & Agreemts
in the said Articles of Agreemt menconed & contained on his part
to be performed & done, & in particuler the said Robert him the said
John from the said twelfth day of March in the yeare aforesaid
untill the last day of Octobr then next following that is to say for
the space of Seven Months & a halfe did serve in such imploymt as he
was capable of, for which according to the tenour of the Articles of
Agreemt aforesaid he was to haue & receive of him the said John the
