56 Provincial Court Proceedings, 1672. Liber J J To his Excellency the Capt Genll of this Province of Maryland &c The Humble Petticoñ of Richard Ackworth of Somrset County planter Humbley Showeth That whereas Capt Thomas Jones of this County of Somrset about the Beginning of August in the 41th yeare of the Dominion of the Right Honble Cacilius &c Over this Province of Maryland Annoq Dom, 1672 Made his Repayre to yor Pettitionrs house (in your Pettr absence) with some others in his Company, And the said Thomas Jones desired your Petrs wife to let him haue some syder which your Pettrs wife did accordingly the said Jones Remayneing from the tyme he came which was about Ten a Clock in the morneing of the day he came untill Early the next morneing At which tyme the said Jones gott up not making any that did belong to my ifamily Acquainted, then and did there Illeagally Ransack Seiz take and carry away iforty three Drest Deare skyns, One hundred Eighty odd Muskratt skyns, Twenty odd Rackoone Matchecoats, and two Beare skyns, And them put on Board your Pettrs Sloope, the which Sloope he also made of, and both the goods afforesaid with the Sloope carryed away to the Landing of Mr Randall Revell, and there brake up the Cabbin Doore of your Pettrs Sloope which was fast Locked, and tooke out of the said Cabbin a parcell of shott, the said Jones not giveing an Account to any of my family wherefore he made seizure of the iforegoing skyns nor sloope, your Pettrs Sloope being at his owne Landing and his wife being asleepe, your Pettrs being much Damnifyed for the want of his Sloope and Goods, Humbly Craves yr Excellencys Ordr for the Restauracon of the said Goods and Sloope with Damages, And as in duty bound shall pray &c Uppon the fforegoeing Pettition Ordered by the Court here, That Richard Ackworth the Pettr haue his Goods and Sloope againe Deliuered unto him, by Capt Thomas Jones who seized the same, but that the said Ackworth Doe not presume at any tyme to Goe out of this Province with his Sloope before he shall first Cleare her with his Lordpps Collector appointed in those parts uppon Payne and perrill that shall ifollow theron p. Maryland ss—Memorandum that this prsent day to witt upon the [i.e., 524] 7th day of October in the 41th yeare of the Dominion of Caecilius &c. Annoq Doth 1672. Come Thomas Jones who aswell on the behalf e of the Right honble the Lord Proprietary as for himselfe Giueth the Court here prsent to understand and be informed That whereas he the said Thomas Jones who aswell &c, being one of his Lordpps Justices for the County of Worcester haueing Re ceiued informacon that one Peter Hannce a Dutchman had Imported into this Province from New yorke six Mares Contrary to the Act of Assembly in that case made & Provided, The said Thomas who |
