40 Provincial Court Proceedings, 1672. Liber J J wright John Warren Ignatius Warren John Hartwell John Stone Aholiab West & John Pollard who to say the truth in ye prmises being Elected tryed & sworne upon their oathes doe say that they finde the said James Lewis guilty of what is alledged in the Indictmt. Whereupon it is ordered by ye Court that ye said James Lewis receive imediately thirty nine Lashes on ye bare back and that the Sheriff of St Maryes County Cause ye same to be Executed upon the said James Lewis, and further that the said Sheriff Keepe ye body of the said Lewis in his Custody untill he shall finde suertyes for the good behaviour, and such suertyes as two of the Justices shall approve of whereof one of ye said Justices is to be of ye Quorum. 500l Tob fine Then was Bryan Dayly Retorned of the foregoing Jury f9nde five hundred pounds of Tobacco for his Default in not apearing upon call. p. 511 Upon the Information agt Capt Thomas Jones Exhibited by Henry Smith and ffrancis Jenkins & found billa Vera by the Grand Inquest It is by the Cort ordered that the said In formation be mended in matter of forme and that he have a Coppy of it, when mended, & pleade to it ye next The Court Adjourned whilst Munday morning. The 7th of October 1672 Present as before. 10 October 1672 Mr Attorney General By virtu of a Comission of ye sole Indian Tradr of this Province to me Graunted by the Lord Proprietary and by ye said Comission Empowred to take seize or surprize any pson or psons together with their Ship or Ships Sloopes or other Vessells with all their Truck or any Skynns or ffurrs Clandestinely had or purchased Trading without lycense from the Lord Proprietary by vertu of wch Comission I have taken severall ffurrs and other Truck according to the pticulars underwritten the wch I prseflt to you as his Lopps officer for the Acquittall or Condemnation thereof as proofe shalbe made is the information of Sr yor humble Servant Seized at ye Hore Keele ye 26th Tho Jones. of June 1672.
