by Acting Steadily upon this Principle your Excellency has pursued
the best means of effectuating the general Interest.
Be assured, Sir, that no endeavours shall be wanting on our
Part, to improve the good understanding, that Subsisted between
the two Houses during the last Session, and to Manifest our sincere
Inclinations to bring this to a happy Conclusion.

Sensible, that the Acts of Parliament, referred to by your Ex-
cellency, were Calculated to advance the inseparable Welfare, and
Prosperity of Great Britain and her Colonies, We take this Oppor-
tunity to express the very great Satisfaction the late Measures of
Parliament have given Us, and most Cordially receive your Ex-
cellencys Congratulations on that Important Occasion

His Excellency is pleased to Communicate, to this House, his
Answer to their Address, which follows in these Words.

Gentlemen of the Upper House of Assembly

I cannot, in Words adequate to what I feel, thank You for your
kind and affectionate Address, or express the pleasure it gives me to
know, that my Conduct, since I have had the honour to preside
here, is approved of by those, whose favourable Opinion it has ever
been my Study to merit.

That no Endeavours of yours will be wanting to bring this Session
to a happy Conclusion, I am very Confident, and you may, Gentle-
men, be assured, that I shall be always ready to concur with the
other Branches of the Legislature, in every Measure, that may be
proposed for promoting the Welfare and Prosperity of this Province.
