[Proviso]

Provided Nevertheless That if the Purchase Money is not Paid
down immediately on Request to the said Vestry they are hereby
impowered and required if there should not be Pews or Seats enough
for all the Freeholders of the said Parish applying as aforesaid to
Permit such as may have drawn Blanks to draw again in manner
aforesaid for such Pew or Pews so refused or neglected to be paid
for and if all the Freeholders as aforesaid have Pews then to sell and
dispose of such Pews as are not paid for or may be left at the next
Vestry-Day to the highest bidder and the Money overpaying for the
Erecting the Pews to be Applied as the said Vestry shall think
Proper to the use of the Church

An Act to impower the Justices of Somerset and Worcester Counties
to levy on the taxable Inhabitants of Stepney Parish in Somerset
and Worcester Counties the Quantity of one hundred and sixty
thousand Pounds of Tobacco for the Uses therein mentioned

[Preamble]

Whereas the Vestry men Church Wardens and sundry of the In-
habitants of Stepney Parish lying in Somerset and Worcester Coun-
ties have by their humble Petition to this General Assembly set forth
That their Chapel of Ease known by the name of Godderd's Chapel
is not only old much out of Repair and unfit to attend divine Service
therein but inconveniently situated for the Parishioners and that their
Chapel of Ease known by the Name of Spring-Hill Chapel is in a
ruinous Condition and unfit to be repaired and that it was necessary
to Purchase for the use of the said Parish a Lott of Ground at or
near the Head of Wicomoco River in the said Parish and to erect and
build a Chapel thereon and also to Purchase a Lott of Ground in the

said Parish near unto the Place where Spring Hill Chapel now
stands and to erect a Chapel thereon and have humbly prayed that
an Act may pass that one hundred thousand Pounds of Tobacco may
be levied upon the taxable Persons of the said Parish by two equal
Assessments for the Purpose of building the Chapel of Ease at the
Head of Wiccomoco River and the Quantity of sixty thousand
Pounds of Tobacco for the building the Chapel of Ease near the
Place where Spring Hill Chapel now stands by equal Assessments
in the two Years subsequent to the Assessment of the said one
hundred thousand Pounds of Tobacco
Be it therefore Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietary by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordships
