Which Bills were severally Indorsed "By the Upper House of
Assembly 14.th Dec.r 1765
The Ingrossed Bill whereof this is the Original read and as-
sented to

Mr Baker hath Leave of Absence
It being represented to this House that a certain Martin Casner
Inhitants of Fred.k County was now in Annapolis and was capable
to give Information concerng the Assembling of Men in Arms at
Frederick Town

Ord.d that he be acquainted to attend at the Bar of this House
forthwith to answer such Questions on Oath as shall be asked him
by this House relative to the matter afs.d and the said Martin having
attended accordingly he made the follg Deposition Viz
The Deposition of Martin Casner of Conococheague in Frederick
County made on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God this 14.th
Day of Dec.r 1765
The said Depon.t saith that some Time the Week before last to
the best of this Depon.ts Refnbrance and a few Days after Col.o
Cresap had returned Home from Annapolis One Baptist Scott with
whom this Depon.t has had sev.l Dealings and whom he esteems a
Man of Credit and Veracity came to this Dep.ts Mill and told him
this Dep.t that Col.o Cresap had been at this Scotts House and that
Col.o Cresap in Conversation about the Assembly Proceedings had
signified that every Thing was in a fair Way of doing well that the
Journal was likely to pass and that he expected it would pass that
the Governor seemed to be very agreeable to every Thing as was done
This Depon.t saith that he left Home last Tuesday Morning and
that every Thing so far as he knows was quiet in the Upper Parts
of Frederick County nor did he hear otherwise than that the Public
Debts were likely to be paid and the Journal pass till on his Way
down he heard at Jacob Youngs (within about 6 Miles of Frederick
Town) that the Journal was not likely to pass that the people in
General from thence downwards so far as this Depon.t hath heard
and observed are much inflamed from an Apprehension that the
Public Debts are not likely to be paid This Depon.t did not see
any People collected armed or arming but hath understood that there
have been Deliberations whe.r for a Number of People to come to
Annapolis
