have been as your Committee understand furnished & filled up by
the Clerk of the Council
Your Committee also Report that the Amerciaments in the Prov.l
Court granted by Act of Assembly to be applied as the Gov.r and
Council shall Direct Amount (by Information from the Clk of the
Prov.l Cot) to about 2500.Ib of Tobo annually which were given as
your Committee have been informed to the late Clk of the Council
tho' your Committee do not know how they are now disposed of
That there is collected by the resptive Naval Officers One Shilling
Str p HHd on all Tobo exported under Colour of an Act of Assembly
passed in 1704 granting that Duty to her Majesty Queen Anne her
Heirs and Successors for the Support of her Government for the
Time being in and over her Matys Province afs.d and the Territories
to the same belonging which Annually amounts to about £ 1400 Str
That there are also collected by the said Naval Officers 14d Str p
Ton on all Foreign Vessels under Colour of an Act of Assembly
made in 1661 which your Committee conceive on a moderate Com-
putation amount Annually to £1000 or £1200 Str
And that there are also collected by the said Naval Officers 3.d
Str p Ton on all Vessels trading here not built here or owned by
Residents of this Province by Virtue of an Act of Assembly passed
in 1704 which imposes that Duty for the Use of the Governor of
this province for the Time being and which Duty is estimated to
Amount to about £200 Str annually
But your Committee do not know to what purposes the said
One Shilling p Hh.d and 14d p Ton are applied or how the Fines
arising by the Comon Law or Forfeitures under Acts of Assembly
granting the same for the Support of Government are disposed of
and which your Committee are of Opinion yearly Amount to a
considerable Sum
All which is humbly submitted to the Consideration of your Honbe
House
