never being allowed an adequate Reward for the extra Sessions
which have happened Year after Year, for each and all of which
he had a great Deal of Work to do, and much Paper to use, together
with his having no Allowance for the last Year, were, and are,
Difficulties too heavy and expensive for him to support and labour
under.

That your Petitioner has, in a printed Letter addressed to your
Excellency and your Honours, set forth with strict Truth, many
Particulars, relating to his Situation with the Public, (to which he
humbly craves Leave to refer, as they are too prolix to emunerate
in this Petition) and humbly Begs, that your Excellency and your
Honours, would now be pleased to take them into your candid and
compassionate Consideration, and favourably to grant him such
Relief and Recompense, as to You, in your Wisdom and Judg-
ment, shall think agreeable to his Desert, and consistent with
Justice and Equity.

And your most humble Petitioner, as in Duty bound, will ever
Pray, &c.

KENT COUNTY, FOR AN ACT AUTHORIZING A
TOWN MARKET AND ITS REGULATION, 1761

[THIS PETITION PRESENTED IN THE UPPER HOUSE,
APRIL 21, 1761, WAS FAVORABLY ACTED UPON AT THE
1762 SESSION AND THE SOUGHT FOR LEGISLATION PASSED
AT THIS SESSION. THE MATTER IS DISCUSSED IN DETAIL ON

PAGES xxliii-xxliv, AND THE ACT WILL BE FOUND ON
PAGES 209-211.]


To his Excellency Horatio Sharpe Esquire Governor and Com-
mander in Chief in and over the Province of Maryland. And to the
Honourable the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly of the said
Province.
The Petition of the Subscribers Inhabitants of Chester Town in
Kent County in the said province. Sheweth
That by the survey of the said Town there is a Convenient square
of ground laid out for a Market Place, and that the Inhabitants of
