of the clear annual Amount of the Profit of such Benefice; Office
or Employment; and that all and every Person or Persons within
this Province, having any Annuity, Pension, Stipend, or other yearly
Payment, payable, or secured to be paid, by any Person or Persons
whatsoever, within this Province (except such as are issued out of
any Lands, Tenements or Hereditaments, or chargeable upon the
same, touching which other Directions are given by this Act) shall
yield and pay for three Years successively, to the respective Col-
lectors aforesaid, the Sum of One Shilling for every Twenty Shil-
lings, or the Value thereof, in any Species or Commodities what-

soever, which he, she or they, do receive in one Year, by Virtue of
every such Annuity, Stipend, Pension, or yearly Payment respectively.

XLVII. And be it further Enacted, by the Authority, Advice,
and Consent aforesaid, That every Person practising the Law or
Physick, within this Province, every hired Clerk acting without Com-
mission, and every Factor, Agent, or Manager Trading or using
Commerce within this Province, as such, shall yield and pay for
three Years successively, to the respective Collectors aforesaid, the
Sum of Eight Pence, for every Twenty Shillings of the clear annual
Amount of the Profit of such Practice, Wages, or Factorage, all
which Sum and Sums of Money as aforesaid to be paid, shall be
assessed by the said Assessors, and levied, collected and paid, as
herein is directed.
XLVIII. And be it further Enacted, That the several and re-
spective Assessors of every District or Division shall, and are hereby
required, yearly and every Year, during the Continuance of this Act,
within the Time allowed them by this Act, for making and bringing
in their Assessment to the Commissioners aforesaid, repair in Person
to the Dwelling-House of every Person inhabiting, or residing within
their respective Districts, and there demand of the master, Mistress,
Dame or Overseer, or other chief Person of the Family in the said
House residing, a true List under the Hand of such Master, Mistress,
Dame or Overseer, or other chief Person, of all the several Articles
of personal Estate herein before enumerated, which he, she, or they

were possessed of, either in hie, her, or their own Right, or in Trust

for any other, or of which he, she or they had the Care or Superin-
tendency, either in the said District, or out of the Province as afore-
said, on the Fourteenth Day of October, in the Year next preceeding
such Demand, with the Weight of all the Plate, such Person then
had, and of the clear annual Value of any public Office, Benefice or
Employment, Annuity, Pension, Stipend, or other yearly Payment,
which such Person shall be then invested with, or shall be entitled
to receive, and also of the clear annual Profits which such Person
shall make by the Practice of the Law, or Physick, or as an hired
Clerk as aforesaid, by his Commissions, or Wages, as Factor, Agent,
or Manager, within this Province; in which List shall be expressed
