Authority, Advice, and Consent aforesaid, That the several follow-
ing Articles, and none other of personal Estate, being the Property
of any Person or Persons, Bodies Politick or Corporate, within this
Province, or in any of his Majesty's Plantations in America, shall
be liable to Taxation, for the Purposes in this Act mentioned, to wit,
All ready Money and Plate, and Sterling Money in Great-Britain,
white Servants, Negroes and other Slaves, Horses, black Cattle,
Sheep, Hogs, Tobacco, and Pig and Bar-Iron in Hand, or shipped
to Great-Britain, and all Coaches, Chariots, Chaises, and such like
Wheel Carriages, and all Ships, Brigs, Snows, and other Topsail
Vessels, Sloops, Schooners, Shallops, Boats and Flats, and all Ferry-
Boats and Scows, and all such of the following Articles as any

Person or Persons shall have in his, her, or their Possession for
Sale, or which shall be then sent to Market, and for which the Value
is not received, to wit, Wheat, Country-made Linen, Hemp, Cordage
of all Kinds, Bread and Flour, Indian Corn, Oats, Barley, Flax Seed,
Rye and Flax, Beef, Pork, Tar, Pitch and Turpentine, Staves and
Heading, Plank and Shingles, new Carts and Waggons, Country-
made Shoes, and Leather and Saddles, all wrought or unwrought
Plate, in the Hands of Silver Smiths for Sale, and all other Country
Manufactures in the Hands of the Manufacturer of every Kind in
their Way of Trade respectively for Sale, also of Merchandize, or
Stock in Trade, as herein after directed to be given Lists or Accounts
of, and that all and every Person or Persons, Bodies Politick or
Corporate within this Province, having any such personal Estate, as
before herein enumerated, within this Province, or without, either
in his, her, or their own Right, or in Trust for the Use of any other
Person or Persons, shall yield and pay for three Years successively
to the respective Collectors appointed by this Act, the Sum of Five
Shillings for every One Hundred Pounds of ready Money, and for
every One Hundred Pounds Worth of any other of the personal
Estate before enumerated, and after that Rate for a greater or less
Sum, to be estimated at the ready Money Price by the Assessors
herein after mentioned, who are hereby impowered and required, to
estimate and assess the same, at the Rate aforesaid, and the said
Sum so assessed, shall be levied and collected in Manner herein after
mentioned, and that all and every Person or Persons, ecclesiastical
or civil, within this Province, having or exercising any Benefice,
Publick Office or Employment of Profit, and all and every their
Clerks, Agents, Substitutes, Deputies, Registers, and other inferior
Ministers whatsoever (hired Clerks who do not act by Commission,
in respect of the Wages they receive for their Hire only, and such
Military Officers as shall be in his Majesty's Army, or in the Pay
of this Province, in respect of such Military Employment, only
excepted) shall yield and pay, to the respective Collectors aforesaid,
for three Years successively, One Shilling for every Twenty Shillings
