An Act for giving a Bounty for taking Indian Prisoners and other
Purposes therein mentioned

Whereas the Commissioners or Trustees for Emitting Bills of
Credit have still remaining in their Hands the sum of Two Thousand
one hundred and twenty Pounds of the several sums of Money Ap-

propriated to the payment for Indian Prisoners or Scalps by Virtue
of an Act entituled an Act for his Majestys Service and further
Security and Defence of the Province, And Whereas Daniel Cresap
Michael Cresap, John Walker Nathan Friggs William Young Abra-
ham Richardson and Ezekiel Johnson by their humble Petition have
represented to this General Assembly that some time in the Month of
July last a party of Indians Came to Col.o Thomas Cresaps of
Frederick County in a War like Manner to Attack the said House
and family where the Petitioners then were and that upon their

being discovered the Petitioners met them in the Field about an hun-
dred Yards from the House, on which an Engagement begun and
the Petitioners were so fortunate as to rout the Indians, kill one on
the Spot (whose Scalp they presented with the said Petition) wound
several others and take some of their Arms, and prayed a reward
for the same Scalp and whereas also James Davis of the Colony of
Virginia by his humble Petition hath represented to this General
Assembly, That in the Month of August last the Petitioner and
twenty eight Others who lived on Potomack being informed that a
party of Indians had made an Incursion and carryed away a certain
James Ciniston and his Wife who lived at Cape Capon on the South
side of Potomack, Armed themselves and went in Pursuit of the
said Indians who were ten in Number that on the Eleventh day of
the same Month they came up with them at a place Called Georges
Creek within this Province and released the said Prisoners and in
an Engagement which ensued the Petitioner Shot one of the Indians
through the Body and Afterwards took of the said Indians Scalp and
prayed a reward for the same, All which facts contained in the said
Petition do Appear to this General Assembly by proper legal Affi-
davits to be true,

Be it therefore Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietary by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordships
Governor and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly and the
Authority of the same that the said Commissioners or Trustees for
emitting Bills of Credit shall and may and are hereby Ordered and
Directed to pay unto the said Daniel Cresap, Michael Cresap, John
Walker Nathan Friggs, William Young Abraham Richardson and
Ezekiel Johnson the sum of fifty Pounds out of the said sum of two
Thousand one hundred and twenty pounds as aforesaid remaining
in their Hands and to the said James Davis the sum of fifty Pounds
out of the same sum of Two thousand one hundred and twenty
Pounds as rewards for the said Scalps so by them Respectively taken,
