of the State of the Office, and accordingly applyed to Doct.r Steuart
to have liberty to count the Money, And had for answer, That the
Commissioners did begin since Last session, to Sort and prepare
the Money for counting, And when they had sorted about £4,000,
Col.o Hammond was taken Sick, and had not been able to attend
Since, and that great part of said Money was deposited in the Iron
Chest N.o 1. before M.r Bullen came into the Office, he did not choose
to proceed upon the counting of the same untill Col.o Hammond
could be present, Your Committee hereupon derected their Clerk to
write to Col.o Hammond, desireing to know if he could attend on this
occasion, and received for Answer the following Letter Viz.th

Gentlemen
I do assure you I am not able to attend you, nor to go out of my
House with Safety, no man never gave better attendance than I have
done for these many Years, but now am prevented by a long Sickness
that still continues, with constant fevers,

Your Committee finds the Ballance of £686.14..6. is Still due to
the Office for Money taken out of it, by the Act for Encouragement
of able bodied freemen Voluntarily inlisted into His Majesty's Ser-
vice for the expedition against Cuba, which was to have been re-
placed by Publick Assessment
Your Committee also finds that there is now due on Bond and
Mortgage for Principal Money the Sum of £6475..16..8£ and for the
Interest due thereon to the end of the last Year of the Several Bonds
the Sum of £817..14..11 3/4.
Your Committee find that there is still due on the Act for En-
couragement of Jonas Green Passed in September 1756.
