An Act to prevent any future Loan of the Bills of Credit now in
the Paper Currency Office, and to ease the Inhabitants of this
Province in the Payment of certain Taxes.
|
|
|
|
|
Whereas any further Loan of any Paper Money belonging to the
Province, in the Office for Emitting the Bills of Credit, may
greatly tend to lessen the Value of the said Fund :

Be it therefore Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietary, by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordship's
Governor, and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly, and the
Authority of the same, That it shall not be lawful for the Com-
missioners or Trustees for Emitting the Bills of Credit, established
by Act of Assembly, at any Time after the End of this present
Session of Assembly, to lend out to any Person or Persons, on any
Pretence or Security whatever, any of the said Bills of Credit now
in their Office, properly belonging to the Country, or any Bills of
Credit that shall or may hereafter be paid into the said Office, on
any Debt or Debts now due on Loan; any Thing in the Act for
emitting and making Current Ninety Thousand Pounds Current
Money of Maryland, in Bills of Credit, to the contrary, notwith-
standing.

And for the more early Payment of the Duties, Taxes, Fines, For-
feitures and Penalties, imposed by the Act for granting a Supply of
Forty Thousand Pounds for his Majesty's Service, and striking
Thirty-four Thousand and Fifteen Pounds Six Shillings thereof
in Bills of Credit, and raising a Fund for sinking the same; Be it
further Enacted, That all Duties, Taxes, Fines, Forfeitures and
Penalties whatsoever, now due and payable from the People of this
Province, or that hereafter shall become due and payable, under the
said last recited Act, shall and may be paid either in Current Gold
or Silver of America, or in Bills of Credit made Current by either
of the above recited Acts; and that all and every Collector and other
Officer, when he accounts for, and pays into the Office aforesaid,
