Liber BB John Wedge Plat . — No.2 John Wickes Defft In a Plea: of Defamation: Declaracon Read To the Worshipll Comissc for Talbott County the the humble Petticon of John Wedge: Humbly Sheweth that John Wickes was at the house of Mr Jn° Wells In Chester River In January Last Where the sd Wickes a Scandowlos libell agst the Reputacon of yor Petticońs wife and family which is a Breach of the Peace of this Prouince: yor Pettcoń doth Therefore Humbly Craue tht this Notorious fellow be Seuerly Punishe and Sattis faction made to the Ageeuance of yor Petticoń as this Worshipll Courtt Shall thinke Fitt and yor Pettcofl shall as in duty Bound: Euer pray: Zahariah Mahew aged about thirty foures yeares Sworne and Examined in open Courtt: Saith that John Wickes Importuned yor depont to Writte a Scandallous Song wch the Said wicke Sung with derission and Scoff to Seuerall Person & Likewise avouheth it to be his owne Invention of of John Wedges wife & further Saith Not his marke Zachariah Mahew [p. —] Thomas Horrockes aged about 25 yeares Sworne & Examined In open Courtt Saith tht John Wickes Impertuned yor depont to writ a Scandalous Song wch yor depont did write wch he the said Wickes sunge Before Seurall Persson wch Like wise he Auouhed that it was his Owne In vention of John Wedges Wife & further saith not Tho: Horrockes The Songe was Read in Open Courtt a found Scandalous to the sd John Wedge and his wife Therefore the Courtt hath ordred that John Wickes Pay for a fine to the Right Honble the Lord Proprietary one Thousand pounds of Tobacoe for Brach of his Lordpps Peace and to John Wedge and his Wife to Aske their forgiueness on his Knees for the abusse done to them & to pay all Cost and Charge of Suit or Execution to Essue forth agt the said Wickes for the same Harbartt Croft Plat In a Plea of Trespass uppon Case: Declara John Bradborne Deift con Read Talbott County ss Harbartt Croift of this County Complaineth againest John Brad- borne in a Plea of Trespass upon Case that the said John bout the Last of December past did Sell unto him the Herbertt a Cow that went at the house of Tho: Mathew of this County for a vallueable Consideracon and the said John did faithfully Promiss and Agree with the said Harbertt that he would haue the said Cow when Soeuer he would Receue hir yett Notwithstanding the said John Allthough the sd Harbertt hath Offten demainded the Said Cow of the sd John he Alitogather Reffused to deliuer the said Cow according to theire |
