The Lower House. 59

For the Affirmative,

Chase, Waggaman, Bordley,
Mills, C. Goldsborough, Dulany,
Hicks, Buchanan, J. Henry.
Fitzhugh, [10]

L.H.J.
Liber No. 48
February 28

His Excellency the Governor communicates to Mr. Speaker, an
Answer to the Address of this House, viz.
Gentlemen of the Lower House of Assembly,
Be pleased to think, that your Address gives me much Satisfaction,
as it assures me of the Continuance of your Inclination and Inten-
tion to promote the Service recommended to you, according to the
Ability of your Constituents; and gives me the most agreeable Hopes
that his Sacred Majesty's most gracious Benevolence, and paternal
Care, towards his Subjects in these Parts of his Dominions, so highly
conspicuous, will inspire you with reciprocal Sentiments of Duty and
Gratitude, and urge you to evince both in a Manner most agreeable
to his Royal Expectations. As the other Branches of the Legisla-
ture have also repeatedly made the same Professions, I hope there
is not the least Room to suspect they were less sincere; wherefore
I entertain sanguine Hopes, that you will now fall on such Measures,
to promote his Majesty's Service, as will meet with their ready Con-
currence; and that the End will now be obtained which we all seem
to have in view, and are equally solicitous to accomplish.
Hor.o Sharpe.
