The General Assembly of Maryland on Saturday the Twenty sec-
ond Day of November 1783 having unanimously rechosen William
Paca Esquire, Governor, He qualified the same Day in the Senate
House in the presence of the Members of the General Assembly by
taking the several Oaths required by the Constitution & Form of
Government and the Laws of this State, and by subscribing a Decla-
ration of his Belief in the Christian Religion. —

Assembly elected Jeremiah Townley Chase, Gabriel Duvall, John
Hoskins Stone, James Brice and Benjamin Ogle Esquires to be Coun-
cil to the Governor

I have the Honor to lay before you a Letter received last Saturday
from Messrs Nicholas and Jacob Van Staphorst which on a compara-
tive View of it with Letters formerly received communicates con-
siderable Information with regard to the Contract & Loan negotiated
with them by Mr Ridley on Behalf of this State

This morning one of the Officers of the Maryland Line, called
upon me, and gave Information that a number of Soldiers had col-
lected in the City and exprest a Design of surrounding the General
Assembly and of making use of Some Violence to obtain Satisfaction
of their Claims on the Public.
