[Wm Paca in Council Annapolis to Samuel Chase Esquire.]

We have appointed you to be Agent and Trustee, to receive the
Stock in the Bank of England belonging to this State, under the Act,
which passed at the late Session on this Subject. The Commission
we have fixed at 4 p Cent, under an Idea that the Business required
a Gentleman of Abilities and Address, and we hope Your Zeal to
serve the Public will prompt you to use every exertion in your Power
to enter as speedily as possible upon the execution of a Matter so
essential to the Interest of the State. We need not inform you, that
the Law requires that you give Bond and Security in £80,000 for the
faithful execution of the Trust.

Saml Smith Esquires]

It is necessary that the Intendant, who was President of the Coun-
cil of Safety at the Time the Brigantine Friendship was in the service
of the State, and who is more particularly acquainted with the Sub-
ject in Dispute between the State and Capt William Stone, than this
Board, should Attend the Arbitration, but as the Public Business
will require his Attendance here for some Days, we request you will
postpone the Arbitration until Monday the 23d Instant, when he in-
forms Us that he will Attend. —

Esqr ninety seven pounds, eleven shillings and nine pence specie
agreeably to the "Act to adjust the Debts due from this State " per
Accounts passed the 5th Instant

Present the Honble Benjamin Stoddert & James Brice Esquires
Ordered that the western shure Treasurer pay to Patrick Morian
Ten pounds, five shillings and six pence and to Colo George Dashiell
One hundred and ninety six pounds, seventeen shillings and six pence
specie agreeably to the "Act to adjust the Debts due from this State "
per Accts passed by the Aud Genl:
That the said Treasurer pay to Charlotte Small One pound, ten
shillings Current Money, out of the Money set apart for Contingent
Expences due her per Account passed. —
That the said Treasurer pay to Colo George Dashiell One hundred
and ninety six Pounds, seventeen shillings and six pence specie agree-
ably to the "Act to adjust the Debts due from this State " per Ac-
count passed by the Aud Genl
