Council of Maryland, 1781-1782. 297

directed that they should be first applied to that Purpose. As we
think a strict Compliance with the Intention and the Direction of the
Legislature in this Instance, would greatly contribute to the Reestab-
lishment of public Credit, We have the Honor to request that you will
take Measures for turning into Money, as much of the Specifics now
on Hand, collected in Virtue of the Acts abovementioned, as will
suffice for the Payment of the Interest on the said Certificates, as it
becomes due.

November 2
Liber No. 78
p. 389

[Council to Mr William Hammond]

We should be greatly obliged to you, if you would contrive to get
the coarse Cloth in the Possession of Messrs Whitesides & Compy, to
Baltimore. The Expence of Transportation, shall be paid to your
Order.

Ibid.
p. 390

[Council to Honble Intendant]

Presuming that the Wheat is to be delivered at the Mills, when
collected for the Public, and that if Frederick and Washington
Counties cannot furnish the Whole agreed for; that the Contract
will not oblige you to deliver more than they can furnish; we can
have no Objection to the Agreement.

Ibid.

[Council to Capt. Zedekiah Walley]

Capt. Bryan takes down the Articles you sent for; he tells us
Cherryston is your Place of Rendezvous. We apprehend you are
too low down the Bay. Several small Vessels of the Enemy have
done Injury as high up as James's Island, since the present Cruize.
The Object of your Equipment was to secure the Trade of the
State and protect the Inhabitants on the Shores, and we request
you will change your present Place of Rendezvous, for such Places
as will enable you most effectually to protect the Trade and the
Citizens of the State.

Ibid.

[Council to Colo Philip Thomas]

We shall be much obliged to you, to let Lieutenant Nathaniel
Magruder have 18 Pair of Shoes, for the Company lately commanded
by Captain Reid.

Ibid.

[Council to Honble Intendant]

We request you will have purchased, as soon as possible, 60 Suits
of Woollen Cloathing, consisting of Coat, Waistcoat, and a Pair
of Breeches, and 60 Pair of Yarn Stockings, for the Invalids and
the Company late Reid's, who are to act as a Guard over the British
Prisoners at Frederick Town.
