authorized to enter into the said Matilda with the said Charles Lam-
bert & search for the said deserters and if they shall be found, to
bring them before this board. Given in Council this 3d Day of Septr

[Council to General Smallwood]

We are desirous of authorizing some Person to go on Board the
Matilda with a French Officer to search for Deserters from the Ship
Romulus. We think a Military Officer would answer the Purpose
best, and we should therefore be much obliged to you, if you would
request one of your Officers to undertake the Business. It will be
necessary for him to call on this Board for the Warrant.

French Troops at Baltimore]

In the Absence of the Governor, we have been honored with your
Letter of the 2d Instant, and we beg Leave to assure you, that every
Step shall be taken to recover and secure the Seamen which have
been taken from the Romulus, as well as your Cook.

Pounds, fifteen shillings — Capt Garah Harding, thirty three Pounds
six shillings & four Pence — Capt Edward Salmon forty Pounds, four
shillings and nine Pence — Lieut James Elliott one hundred and sixty
Pounds eight shillings & two Pence — John Gump, seventeen shillings
& three Pence — Lawrence Bringle and Jacob Cember twenty eight
Pounds, seven shillings & six Pence — John Grove three Pounds, ten
shillings and eleven Pence — Jacob Shade two Pounds, eighteen shil-
lings and four pence — Jacob Holtz twenty five Pounds, five shillings
& one Penny — John Ramsburgh forty two pounds fourteen shillings
and six pence & sixty Pounds, nine shillings and ten Pence — George
Baker seven Pounds — John Connolly ten Pounds — Patrick Dolera
three Pounds, fifteen shillings — Capt Jacob Schley Twenty Pounds
Basil Johnson one Pound — and Abraham Lemaster seven Pounds and
three Pence specie agreeable to the "Act to adjust the Debts due from
this State," per Accounts and Certificates passed. —
