this County. If any of the Militia are called on to do duty we shall
be at a loss for Bread: Would it not therefore be prudent to reserve
a part of the flower that was saved from the Vessels that were drove
on shore for that purpose.

I have only to add to what I wrote yr Excellency last, that Mr
Carmichael mentions in his Letter that the plan for fixing a Post in
Chesapeak is said to have been suggested to the Ministry by Sr Jeffry
Amherst & that 3 Regmts of Horse are to be among the troops
destind for America. A Committee of Congress have under Con-
sideration the removal of the Convention Troops. I hope soon to
have it in my power to inform you of the determination of Congress
on that subject.
It will give me pleasure to have an opportunity of executing any
commands of yrs & yr Lady to whom I present my Comps

[Joseph Ford, Leonard Town to Gov. Lee] (Favored by
Mr. A. Ford.)

Four Certificates that I gave for Draught Horses has been
Brought to me within this few days the People Requesting I would
take them in and Pay them the money Urging that they have offered
them to the Treasurer and he would not pay them they Amount to
six Thousand five Hundred and fifty Pounds, I should be glad if
convenient that that sum of money may be sent by the Bearer
Mr Athanasuss Ford to discharge that Debt; we have a Mill now
that Makes good flour shall I have the wheat Manufactured that
I have of the Publick what will be the terms I may agree with the
Miller on ?

[U. Forrest, Phila, to Jas. Wilkinson, Esqr.]

This will be accompanied by notes for 150 hhds of Patowmack
Tobo belonging to the state of Maryland which you will dispose of
on the most advantageous Terms for their use provided you Can
obtain at least £60 p Cent
You will herewith receive a list of Cloathing wanted for Public
Acct which you will procure on the best Terms in your Power. You
will observe that 26 ream of Paper for Printing Bills of Credit & 70
ream for Printing the Laws & proceedings of the Genl Assembly
together with the Soldiers Cloathing are the Articles more imme-
diately necessary after Transmitting to His Excy the Govr £30000
in Continental Money. The above Business must be executed, in the
course of two weeks or not at all. You will write me by the next &
the Succeeding Post your Prospects in the execution of this Business
