510 Letters to the Governor and Council

September 29

[Jas Calhoun, Comy Genl W. Shore, Baltimore, to Hezekiah Reeder
Esqr Comy of Provisions, Charles County]

Our Army in Virginia are in great want of Provisions there-
fore I must request that you will immediately forward to George
Town what Flour you may have in your County belonging to the
State (if it is not already done) and not loose a moment in having
the Wheat that is yet to grind Manufactured into Flour and sent
there also, as well as the Beef Cattle that you were directed to Col-
lect by the Governor & Council to assist you in forwarding the Flour
&c I have inclosed an Impress warrant which you can make use of if
necessary.
I am ordered by the Governor & Council to give directions to the
several Commissaries to purchase good Flour not exceeding 16/8
p Ct payable in the late Emission or to procure by Loan immediately
a quantity of Wheat or Flour payable in kind as soon as Collected
by Taxes for which Certificates are to be granted bearing an Interest
of 8 p Ct untill paid if the Lenders require it. These Directions please
to Comply with as far as in your power

[Danl Jenifer, Portobacco, to His Excellency Thos. Sim Lee Esqr]

T some time ago wrote to your Excellency to supersede me in
the Office of Register of Wills for Charles County; I must again
repeat that request, and hope that the Governor and council will do it
without delay. I shou'd be glad if agreable to your Excy and the
Council, that Mr John Muschett was appointed in my stead.

I have uStd every Argument in My Power to Get an Assistant to
Procure Flesh Provisions Since I Receiv'd your Orders ,to Procure
fifty head (which was the 26th of August I Receiv'd the Letter) and
Can Gett no one to Undertake and to do it, My Self is Impossible
and do the Other Buisness as it Ought to be done and I Cannot
Undertake it. the People begin to pay their October Tax and as I
am Receiver of Wheat into My Mill and have to Give Sartificates for
all the Wheat Received into Other mills and the flour to Collect and
Deliver in All hurry Buisness Enough for Anny two Men to do and
keep the Accts and one or two Mistakes May take all My Commistion.
If you would Order the Lite horse Company in the forrest who have
all Good horses to Purchase or seaze I believe part of the 400 Cattle
might be Gott and not Otherwise I do not think half that Number of
Cattle Can be Procured in this County for the Buchers are Constantly
bringing in for the Supply of this Place
