480 Letters to the Governor and Council

September 6
Red Book
No. 29
Letter 55

pelled to send the Corn until the Enemy was pretty clear of the Bay.
About a Week agoe I thought it a good time to Risque and accord-
ingly agreed with Mr Richard Mason to Transport the Corn and
fetch the Iron, and was not a Little surprised to be informed by
Mr Dick that the Comm had seized my Iron with the Rest, notwith-
standing Mr Skinner informed them of my Contract. I hope that
your Excy and the Council will give orders for the delivery of at
least the 3 1/2 Tonns (I say at least as I was not confined to 3 1/2
Tonns, But was to have as much more as I sent Corn to pay for) and
that you will also inform me when I am to send the Corn. As the
Iron was British property — I suppose the Corn to pay for it is also
British property — I mentioned this matter to Mr West when last at
Annapolis and requested that he wou'd mention the matter to the
Governor & Council the loss of the Iron will be to me, a great dis-
appointment as my Smiths are almost Idle for want of it. Many of
the Horses want shoeing, wou'd it not be well to have them shod ?

Mr Ridgate hath been with me for pay for his hats I will thank
your Excy for the Price you and the Council have annexed to them
& the manner in which they are to be paid for.

call and take any number I thought they could possibly spare; I have
not yett Seized one and hope I shall not. The Cattle on Chews and
Kent Islands I shall leave there till farther orders, the others I shall
leave in those pastures ready. Those on Kent and Chews may Per-
haps be order'd off by water, if not they shall be ready to go when
order'd. If yr Ex: should order any to be Slaughter'd please to say
what is to be done with the 5th Qr I have found no Salt provisions yet.
