[Peter Chaille, Worcester County, to His Excellency,
Thomas Sim Lee.]

I Recd your Letter dated in Council August 30. 1781 respecting
the Purchase of Cattle Pork &ca I shall set out this morning on the
Business but fear the number of Cattle from this County is two
Large however will Collect the number if in My Power, I have Col-
lected seven draught horses and four Light horse, as horses is very
scarce in this County that are fit for Light horse, fear I shall not
make up the number of that kind, I have purchased 338 1/2 yards of
Cloath, as p Certificate inclosed

Worcester County to wit
I hereby Certify that I have taken into my Possession in Virtue
of the Act of Assembly entitled an Act to procure an immediate sup-
ply of Cloathing and Flesh Provisions for the Troops and a suffi-
cient number of horses for Light hors and Carriage, the Articles
expressed in the Margin the Property of Mr Thomas Usher of Bal-
timore Town, and the Bearer hereof is entitled to receive from the
State of Maryland the price with six per cent interest thereon, Ac-
cording to the above said Act witness My hand this 15 day of
August 1781

[Dan'l Jenifer, Portobacco, to Gov. Lee.] (By Mr. Luckett)

By Mr Luckett your Exy and the Council will receive the Goods
purchased of Jesse Taylor. They would have been sent much sooner —
But I have been daily expecting a new Waggon and Geers of Wm
Leigh who has repeatly promised me in leiu of an horse and tor
which I have his missive, and which he ought to be compelled to
furnish. However as I am tired with waiting I have sent the Goods
in a Cart. I went over to Virginia to view the Rest of Taylor's
Goods — The Duffels which were the principal objects — turned out
Course narrow frize and wou'd by no means answer for Blankets,
his Linnens are Good as are many other Articles, He wou'd not take
the price to which I was Limitted but wou'd have taken what they
Cost him allowing for his expense of Cartage &c — I purchased of
Mr James Dick last fall 3 1/2 Tonns of Barr Iron payable in Corn in
the Course of this year at 20/ a Barl I was to send the Corn to Joppa
to be delivered there a long side the Vessel and he was to put the
Iron on board, both were to be at my Risque, But I was not corn-
