purpose have endeavoured but can get none, those who have for Sale
will only part with it slaughtered — if Beef is to be paid on the Hoof
for the Taxes perhaps I may then get some otherwise have no chance
at present.
My contracts for pork have been at £3 hard money & Beef at 50/
p cent payable in new Bills at the exchange but there is some Beef
in the county to fine, think I must go higher rather than not have it.
My cash is exausted and as I have some contracts to comply with
next week must beg to be supplied by the first opportunity. Doctor
Johnson who is now in Annapolis & I suppose will be down in a few
days will readily convey it to me. I must also request to be furnished
with Salt as soon as possible, what I have will soon be expended &
unless I am supplied the provision may suffer for the want of it.
