I have appointed Lieut Denny to receive Payment for the same, and
shall be glad you will give an Order on the Treasurer that the Money
may be paid to him.

I have to inform you that I have applied to Colo Thomas Price for
Either Rum or whisky for my select Company of Militia when in
Actual Service and the Colo says he has no orders to issue any and
my men now on Guard over the State prisoners in Frederick Town
Goal do murmer much of being Clipt of their jill per Day as usial; if
there is allowed any I should Take it as a favour If you would order it
to be done other ways to Drop me a few Lines by the Bearer hereof

that I may inform my men of it that they may no what they have to

depend on

[George Dashiell, Salisbury, to Gov. Lee.] (Fav. by Capt. Maxwell)

I have accidently fell in with Capl Maxwell at this place, who in-
forms me that he intends immediately to Annapolis, I begg lieve to
inform your Excellency that yours of the 23rd July which contain'd
your requisition for the immediate march of the recruits Substitutes
& Draughts never came to hand til the 9th Inst on the receipt of which
I dispatch'd messengers to the whole of them in the county, & they
are this day to collect together at Princess Ann and this place, The
Lieut of Worcr recd yrs of the 23rd July at the same time that I did,
the draughts for Worc are to collect this day at Snow Hill, and will
on thursday next, March in Compy with those from Somt to An-
napolis. The Select Militia is also completed in both these Cotys and
we shall immediately send up for Commissions

[Dan Jenifer, Piscattaway, to Gov. Lee.]

I am told here by a Gentleman of Character that Capt Taylor had
from Colo Hooe only 2/3 Cost p O for the Cargo, therefore it can
not be supposed that he will permit the Staple Articles to be Culled
and give 2/6 p Cent Consequently I think it needless to run to the
expence of going to London to view the Goods 'till I have the honor
of hearing further from Your Excellcy The Gent informs me further
that he believes I may get the Goods from Taylor for the same price
he paid only allowing him the Cartage and charges.
