Voluntarily embodied themselves in a Troop of Horse under the

[Jas. Calhoun, Baltimore, to the Governor and Council.]
(Hond by J. T. Chase Esq.)

The Flour sent to Mr Chrisall was got out of the Continental Store
here and was in part of the 100 Bbles ordered by your Board on the
6th Inst I am sorry to find so much of it unfit for use as upon enquiry
the Store keeper informs me the greatest part of it was received about
two or three weeks ago in good order therefore its probable there is
more of it in the same condition, the remainder of the flour shall be
sent through the same channel as soon as possible & hope will turn
out better.
If your honble Board would write to the Comy Genl of Issues at
Philadelphia & have an Issuing Commissary appointed at Annapolis
and another at George Town it would ease you of any trouble on that
head in future as those Commissaries would then apply to the Con-
tinental Stores for all the Provisions that was necessary to Issue at
those Posts.
During the late alarm I purchased near thirty Bbles of Pork which
served to issue to the Militia before any Cattle could be collected and
gave them very general satisfaction. I must request you will please
send me 4 or £500 to pay for this Pork and some other matters I owe
and must also request that your honble Board will please point out
some method of procuring at least 100 head of Cattle to have always
in the neighbourhood of this place in case of another alarm it is im-
possible to collect them in time on such an occasion.
