make an immediate Investigation of the Facts alledged against him,
that if Guilty he may Suffer Condign Punishment, worthy of the
Attrocious Crime; but if found innocent, (which your Memorialist
has not the least Fears of) that his Liberation may be Effected.
Your Memorialist begs Excuse for his Intrusion, and Doubts
not it will be Received with Candour, and that your Excelly will be
Pleased to Scrutinize into his Complaint, and from the Nature of
the Case be Deemed worthy your Excy Attention.

[Capt. John Reid's Memo]

Memn for Captn Davis to apply to the Govr & Council for their
order on Mr Eglen to furnish Capt Reids men with the following
articles of Cloathing also to mention to them, to request Mr Eglen
to have them made up & should they make any hesitation in Grant-
ing the order he will be pleaStd to urge the measure by representing
their naked situation of the men & the absolute necessity of Grant-
ing it.

Articles wanting; 12 Hatts, 12 Coats, 12 Jacketts, 12 pair Over

alls, 40 Shirts, 7 Blanketts.

[John Simmes, Charles Co To His Excellency Thomas Sim Lee Esqr
Governor and the Honourable Council]

The Petition of John Simmes of Charles County most Humbly
Sheweth that your Petitioner is one of the Draughts from Charles
County to serve in the Continental Army for nine months. Your
Petitioner being now in the forty ninth year of his Age but very
weakly in his Constitution and has a Humour in his Eye which ren-
ders him incable to bear the fatiagues of a Campaign your Petitioner
also has a very large family to support by his own Labour, which
should be obliged to Join the Army must suffer they being most of
them very young. Your Petitioner therefore most Humbly prays
your Honours to take his case into Consideration and grant him such
relief as to your -Honours shall think meet. And your Petitioner in
duty bound will pray &c.

We the subscribers Inhabitants of Charles County and well Ac-
quainted with the above Petitioner do recommend him to your Excel-
lencys Clemency and do aver that the facts in the above Petition are
true.

Posey, W. Winter, Edwd Semmes, Joseph Boarman, Leonard Boar-
