Money upon him. Your Petitioner conscious of his Harmless inten-
tions was astonished to find his conduct grossly misrepresented in
Testimony which charged him with having behaved rudely and inde-
cently to the said Virlinder Haislup. As she received no hurt and as
your petitioner has little to Subsist on other than the profits arising
from his industrious Labour (for himself his wife and children)
your petitioner was grieved to find the Court imposed a Fine upon
him which he most humbly hopes your Excellency will think im-
moderate and excessive and will grant him such releif as your Ex-
cellency in mercy shall think proper and your petitioner shall pray

Wee the Subscribers Neighbours and acquaintances of the within
mentioned Joseph Nelson do certify that he hath allways been es-
teemed a well behaved modest man and in every other respect hath
allways sustained a reputable Honest Character and we never heard
of his being guilty of or Charged with any misdemeanour except the
within mentioned assault and have the greatest reason to believe the
facts therein stated are true. We therefore recommend him to Your
Excellencys clemency. We the Subscribers were present at the Trial
when the within mentioned Fine was imposed and are of opinion
that the same was immoderate and excessive.
