the premisses considered will grant him the indulgence prayed for
by Causing him to be removed from the loathsome place he is now in

[Baruch Williams, Cecil Co'ty, to Gov. Lee.]

I have received many Applications from Col Yates to supply him
with Forage at the Post at Elk. I have one this minit before me,
informing of their distrest situation for Want of that Article I am
realy sorry to Inform you that it is out of my power to purchase any
without Cash. I have made known to Colo Hollingsworth my Situa-
tion who informs me he has given Intimation to the Govr & Council
of it. I cannot be answerable for the Distrest Situation of that Post
without having means in my power to relieve them. I wou'd not wish
to be Censured by the Govr & Council in my Conduct which is the
occasion of my now writing, otherwise I shou'd not, as Coll. Hol-
lingsworth has wrote to the same purport often as he tells me. Corn
can be had from 2/ to 2/9 hard pr Bushell, the Commissioners of the
Tax have fixt the depreciation of this State at 3 tho' few and very
few will take at that. I only want the power together with the Govr
& Councills directions as to the price & if a purchase is made in hard
money (which Purchases generally are now made in here) at what
Depreciation in State — I then will take all Blame if every article
which is now wanting is not provided. I would write oftener to in-
form you the Difficulties I Labour under but as Colo Hollingsworth
has to write so often about his own Affairs his mentioning them to
you I hope will Appologize for my Neglect.
