be sufficient. I have inclosed you Lieut Colo Waterses Comms with
a resignation on it, we have no other field officer to the battalion but
a majr who earnestly requests with myself that Mr John Done may be
appointed to the Command of it. Mr Done formerly commanded A
battalion in Worcester County which was vacated by his removal
and from his known integrity and Attachmt to our Cause we have
been induced to recommend him to the Command of the battalion
and hope your honours will have it in your power to transmit me his
Commission with the commissions for the Salisbury battalion agree-
able to the recommendations which you have recd with a Lieut Colo
Commission for Maj. Esme Bayly of the Salisbury Battalion

[Joseph Handy to Colo George Dashiels, Lieutenant of the County].
On the 21 day of this Instant at the Request of Mr Lyons I went
Down to huppers Straights in order to fetch the flag up Wiccomoco
But when I came there I found Her in poseson of a british Privatier
from New York cald the Jack in the Lantern Comanded by Capt
Mangen who took me prisoner and Detained Me five Days in which
time they Stript the flag of Sailes Rigen and provisions and one
anchor and Cable and Mr. Lyons Cloths they Likewise tuck ought
five or six tons of Balest which has put the flag so Mutch ought of
trim that I Dont think Her fit for Sea on the twenty fifth of this
Instant the aforesaid privatiers was taken by the Antilope Leter of
Mark Commanded by Capt folger from Guardalupe bound to Balti-
more but Hearing that The Enemies Shipt was up the bay they went
up Patuxent River where they set me and the flag at Liberty.

Permission is hereby given to Legh Masters Capt of the Sloop Ex-
periment A Flag of Truce from Providence one of the Bahama
Islands to Lade on board the Said Sloop for the use of the Exchanged
Prisoners and Crew Belonging to the Said Sloop Ten Barrels of
Bread & five Barrels of Flower and Ten Barrels of Salt Beaf or Pork.

Baltimore, February 28, 1781.
Mr Masters having furnished the Prisoners with Six Hundred &
fifty Six Pounds of Beef and Six Hundred and fifty six pounds of
flower of his Provisions he is at Liberty to take the Like Quantity
over & Above the Within.
