[Charles Blake, Corsica, to His Excel: Thos S. Lee Esquire]
(pr Captn Holmes)
By the Lottery Captn Holmes I have the Honour to transmitt
yr Excl. 87 barrels and three Tierces of Salt provisions part beef
part pork some collected for Taxes and the rest purchased the whole
meat contained in the 87 barrels when green amounts to 23709 1/2 lbs
by the same opportunity I also send in pieces of bacon 1422 1/4 lb
procur'd agreable to yT Excelcys order of the 7th of March the rest was
fresh on the hoofe and has been sent to Colo Hollingsworth when
the Marquis was at Elk, which the Colo says arrived very seasonably ;
the Colo has also sent for all the Salt provisions but yr orders came
too soon for his. Captn Holmes would have had greater dispatch but
the provisions were removed five miles from the water when the
Enimy were up; and his Men are very idle in getting it on board and
I am afraid will injure the barrels much.

[George Dashiell, Somt County, to The Honble. Matthew Tilghman,
Esquire, Talbott Coty]
Yours of the 13th Inst I recd pr Doctr Winder and agreeable to
your request shall procure all the lead from individuals that I possi-
bly can, but am apprehensive that it will not be in my power to obtain
but very little if any in the county I have Call'd on the Colos for a
return of the lead which they have on hand and find that we have
not in the County more than Twelve Hundred Cartridges and neither
Powder nor lead to make more. As the qty of cartridges which I
have is not sufficient for the Militia which I am under an Absolute
necessity of keeping on duty, I should be glad of an order on the
Lieut of Worcester for a Supply of Each (if it can be spared from
that County) until I am otherwise furnished he informs me that he
has 10 or 12 barrels of Powder but I dont know what Qty of lead he
has by him. As I apprehend he has made you a return of the public
Ammunition in that Coty You can best Judge wheather he Can sup-
ply me or not. Inclosed is a list of persons recommended to fill up
the Vacancies in the Salisbury Battalion I request the favr of you to
Issue Commissions for them agreeable to the return. Your favr of
the 9th Inst I recd with Two barrels of Cannon Powder One ream
of Cartridge paper and flints.
