[Geo: Lindenberger, Baltimore to His Excellency Thomas Sim Lee]
This afternoon Coll Smith of Baltimore town deliverd me a Let-
ter from Richard Dallam (which I here send inclosed) and a Cer-
tain Cromwel therein mentioned, on Suspition that he had bought
flower to send it to the Enemy by John Paul. In Consequence of
this information I have Comitted sd Cromwel to the Guard house,
as I do not think the Goal sufficient, waiting your Excellencys further

To his Excellency Thos Sim Lee Esqr and his Honourable Council.
The Humble petition of Vachel Robosson Humbly Sheweth
That your petitioner on the fourth of this Instant came to Town
in a Wood flat of Joseph Maccubbin and same day a Barge with
armed Men took said flat from Your Petitioner by force of Arms
and your Petitioner Asked them who wou'd pay for her, in case she
sho'd be damaged or Lost, & they informed him your Excellency
wou'd make good any change that the flat should Sustain — now your
petitioner is informed that said flat was drove down the Bay on
Sunday in that Violent Wind and your petitioner is afraid she is
gone to peices — now your petitioner wou'd be glad you wou'd in-
dulge him with one of the State Boats in order to go & Look after her
& soe to indeavour to get her Back if Possible as it wou'd be a Secret
Satisfaction to your Petitioner & a means of safeing a Small Ex-
pence to the State and your petitioner as in Duty Bound will Ever
Pray &c &c. April 11th 1781.

[J. Rogers, Thos. Contee, Joseph Sim, Upper Marlbro,
to the Council.]
The depredations committed by the enemy on Patuxent between
this place and Swansons Creek has rendered it necessary to supply
the Companys below with all the Arms that were lodged at this place
for the Marlbro Company, this has been done we are informed by
the order of Colo Beall, who it is said has all the rest of the Arms
& all the Cartridge Boxes on Potomack, where in all probability they
will be wanted. At present there are no arms in the hands of the
Militia Companys on Patuxent from Bell air to Swansons Creek
except the above 30 nor any cartridge Boxes. Colo Beall the Lieut
is at a distance. Under these Circumstances we take the liberty to
request the assistance of your Excellency and Honors in supplying
the Militia here with a reasonable proportion of Arms & Cartridges.
One hundred of Arms and one hundred & fifty of Cartridge
Boxes of which we shall give an immediate account to the Lieut
There appears a very good spirit among the Militia to exert them-
selves if they had arms and a Number are well disposed and desireous
to put themselves on Horse back, could they be furnished with 20
or 30 Horse mens swords, which might be sent with the rest of the
