April 8

[George Murdock, Frederick Town to His Excellency Governor Lee]
(hond by Col. Rawlings)

Apprehending the Treasury is still empty your Excellency will
be pleased to send me a further order on Mr Edelen with which I
must do the best I can. This morning I recd a waggon load of Salt
Pork from Mr Tho. Beall of Geo Town, with a request to send Three
waggons down immediately for more, this together with about Five
Thousand weight of Beef I purchased and received yesterday will be
a pretty good supply.

April 8

[Josa Beall, Lieut Ps Gs Cty, to His Excelly Thomas Simm Lee]

I received yours by the Express about Eleven oClock and have
ordered two Waggons up to the Magzein for 150 stand of Armes
in case we shuld not get Enough from Mr West, as I am appre-
hensive they may attempt our Lower Warehouses & the inhabitants
on the river below I shall go immediate down & send from Broad
Creek to the Wood yard for the arms their to get the people armed in
that Neighborhood, Mr John Turnbull Quarter Master of the Upper
Battalion waits on you with this to receive your order on the person
who has the care of the Arms & will meet the cariages at the Mage-
zean, I dont think we shall want Amunition though I am afraid it
is but very sorrey. I shall take Every step in my power to disapoint
the Enemie in their intentions.
P. S. I am informed the Enemie burnt Portobacco Warehouse

[Jas. Calhoun, Baltimore, to the Governor and Council]

I had the Honour to receive yours of the 6th requesting me to
direct the Comys of Cecil Baltimore & Montgomery to purchase
Forage for the Posts of Elk, this & George Town. In consequence
of which I have wrote to the Commy of Montgomery to procure the
quantity you order for George Town & shall purchase what is re-
quired here as soon as possible, but as to that for Elk presume your
Honble Board made a mistake in making the requisition to me instead
of Coll Hollingsworth it being in his District and not mine and sup-
pose the comy of Cecil would not think himself justifiable in executing
an order from a person who had no jurisdiction over him therefore
shall decline giving any order to Cecil without your farther directions

By Col Wares desire (he being stationed at a place without the
convenience of writing) I have to inform your excellency, that on
thursday evening two arm'd Schooners with a Cutter and some
