Public, and have it deposited at the above mentioned places. We have
given Directions to the several County Commissaries to collect im-
mediately a Number of Beef Cattle, as mentioned below, and salted
Provisions, and we request you to attend to and forward that Busi-
ness. You will also have a sufficient Quantity of Forage laid in at the
Posts of Baltimore and George Town. We send you by this oppor-
tunity £250 of the new Money to expedite and enable you to comply
with these requisitions. St Mary's County 200, Charles 200, Prince
Georges 200, Calvert 200, Ann Arundel County 200, Montgomery
300, Frederick 400, Washington 300, the whole 2000 Head of Beef
Cattle

with the Orders of the Commissary General to pay for Flour Casks
and to forward the Cattle.

[Council Circular to the Commissaries of the several Counties.]

A Detachment from the Main Army with the French Troops, to
the Number of 7000 Men will be at the Head of Elk in eight Days,
on their way to Virginia to act against Lord Cornwallis. General
Washington has wrote us very pressingly for an immediate and large
Supply of fresh Provisions; we therefore direct you to procure by
Purchase Beef Cattle preferring those Parts of your County which
are most exposed to the Ravage of the Enemy; and in Case the
Owners will not consent to sell them upon the Terms prescribed by the
Act for procuring an immediate Supply of Cloathing & Flesh Pro-
visions &ca you will seize them agreeably to the said Act. You will
also purchase all the Bacon, barrelled Pork and Beef in your County,
if not to be purchased, you will seize what can be spared without
distressing the Owners, agreeably to the Act to procure a Supply of
Salt Meat &ca Passed June 1780

Somerset 600, Worcester 600, Dorchester 400, Talbot 350, Caroline
150, Queen Anns 350, Kent 300, Cecil 350, Harford 300, Baltimore
400, Ann Arundel 200, Prince Georges 200, Charles 200, Saint
Mary's 200, Calvert 200 Montgomery 300, Frederick 400 and Wash-
ington 300.
