by the Commissaries for Beef Cattle purchased or seized, which will
be discounted in Taxes, in the Manner the Genl Assembly may

Your Letter of the 18th July, we have received, the Law directs
the Horses to be taken from the Non-jurors, and those unfriendly
to the Government in the first Instance, if not to be had from them,
from the Inhabitants at large, and Certificates given discountable in
Taxes, as the Act directs no Money can be issued to pay for Horses
taken under the Law. If you refuse to act you will inform Colo.
Thompson Lieut of your County, who is empowered to appoint in

Mr John Chrysal informs us a Quantity of Flour has just come to
Hand from Baltimore which he conceives to be damaged and unfit
for use we request you to examine and immediately forward to this
Place one hundred Barrels of sweet Flour, exclusive of our former
Order. We have directed Mr Griffith to purchase or seize one hundred
Head of Cattle in Baltimore County, and put in proper Pastures to
answer Emergencies.

We have received yours of the 11th Instant, As you were not par-
ticular in your Description of the Men raised in your County under

the late Law, we are at a Loss to determine their Claim to receive a
Bounty, as you do not mention whether they are recruits Draughts
or Substitutes but whatever the Law will warrant shall be paid them
on their Arrival in this City, you will order an active and careful
officer from the Militia to march all the Recruits, Draughts and Sub-
stitutes raised in your County under the late Acts of Assembly im-
mediately to this Place. The Commissions would have been trans-
mitted to you by this Opportunity, but you have not pointed out how
the Vacancy happened, which prevents it. Whenever you inform us
they shall be sent. On the Commission to Mr Scott being returned
a proper one will issue to John Scott. We send you £45, to pay the
Bounty for the two Recruits enlisted for three years.

We have the Pleasure to enclose your Commission for obtaining
Arms, Ammunition Cloathing and Loans of Money with our Invoice
and a Copy of the Resolution of the general Assembly properly
