[The Commissioners for Forfeited Estates, Annapolis, to
Major Joseph Bruff.]

The Com" have received Information that the Negroes which be-
longed to Governor Eden, & which you were authorised to sell, were
regularly sold & convey'd by his Aturney to James Hutchins Esqr of
Q. Anns County, for the Payment of a Debt due, before the 1st Day
of Dec. 1779, by Governor Eden to Mr Hutchins. Under these
Circumstances the negroes are not liable to Confiscation, you will
therefore be pleased to postpone the sale until the Board shall be fully
satisfied of the Truth of the above Information, when you will
receive further Instructions. I am sorry to give you this Trouble, but
was not apprised of this State of the Case until this Day.

[Council to Philip Thomas, Esqr.]

We wrote you on the Instant respecting the Saddles &ca and
sent you £750 to pay for them, we shall be obliged to you to contract
for sixty more Saddles &ca to be delivered within six weeks upon the
best Terms you can make, and the Money shall be transmitted you
on request. Yours of the 7th is received with the Recruits &ca and
their Enlistments, we shall pay Capt. Boyer and Mr Magruder their
reasonable Expences for bringing them down

Monday 13th August 1781

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Samuel Price,
eight pounds six shillings and one penny of the Bills emitted under
the Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit not exceeding two hun-
dred thousand pounds &ca of the money appropriated for the present
Campaign for the use of Capt. Boyer and Lieut Magruder due
them per Account passed by the Aud. Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to Philip Shepherd Two pounds,
eight shillings of the same Emission of the money appropriated as
aforesaid due him per Account passed by the Aud. General.
That the said Treasurer pay to John Wilmot Three pounds eleven
shillings of the same Emission of the money appropriated as afore-
said per Account passed by the Auditor General.
That the said Treasurer pay to Luke Forster forty five pounds
of the same Emission of the money appropriated for the Defence of
the State to be delivered over to John Simpkins per Account passed
by the Auditor General, and also five pounds of the same Emission
of the money appropriated for the present Campaign to be delivered
over to Colo Henry Shryock on Account.
That the Commissary of Stores deliver to Joseph Duvall late a
soldier in the 2d Regiment one Coat, one waist coat, two shirts, one
