[Council Circular to the Lieuts of Frederick, Montgomery and
Prince Georges Counties.]
We think a large Body of Troops drawn to a Point in this State
might in all Probability prevent the Enemy from invading it and
would [also be] a very important and acceptable Succour to the Mar-
quis Fayette, if the Enemy should be successful in Virginia as to en-
courage them to penetrate this State, under these Impressions we
have ordered the Militia Horse and select Militia from most of the
Counties of this Shore and nine hundred and fifty of the Militia at
large to George Town on Patowmack, of which Militia at large we
have thought proper to order five hundred from Frederick County,
we therefore request you will give immediate Orders for the March
of five hundred Rank and File of the Militia of your County properly
armed and accoutred under a Lieutenant and Major eight Captains
eight Lieutenants and eight Ensigns to that place without Delay sub-
ject to our further Orders; from Montgomery County two hundred
and fifty under a Major four Captains four Lieutenants and four
Ensigns and from Prince George's two hundred under a Major three
Captains, three Lieuts and three Ensigns
