We request you will immediately furnish Colo Adams with such a
Boat as may be necessary and proper to transport Arms Cloathing
&ca from the Head of Elk to this Place.

We have received your Letter of the and according to your
Request have enclosed a Commission for James Hay; The Accounts
of the Vessels sent to bring up the Cat[o]s Flour are not before this
Board but orders shall be given to procure and forward them to you.

Friday 1st June 1781

Ordered That the Issuing Commissary deliver to Capt. Alexander
Trueman and Capt John Mitchell each, four Gallons of Rum and
sixteen pounds of sugar due to the first Instant.
That the western shore Treasurer pay to Captain John Mitchell
five pounds fifteen shillings and nine pence due him per Account
passed by the D. Aud.
John Bullen is appointed Quarter Master in this State.

We cannot undertake to give particular Directions about the re-
ceiving the Money from the Classes, the Law directs that it shall be
paid in Specie or the Value in the new Emission, which Value we
suppose is left with you to settle, all that we can say is that you had
better take an Account of the Kinds of Money you may receive at
what Exchange and at what Time.

[Council Circular to the Lieutenants of Several Counties.]

From the Intelligence we have received of the rapid Movements of
the Enemy in Virginia, we have reason to apprehend an Invasion of
this State, it will be necessary that every Precaution be taken pre-
parative for our Defence. We therefore request you to order the
Militia in your County to hold themselves in perfect Readiness to
march at a moments warning to such Place as may be thought neces-
sary, and to have all the Arms in your County proper for Defence,
immediately repaired and put in the best Condition Cartridges made
and every thing ready to take the Field.
