erected and built with all convenient Speed, Capt. Keeports is ap-
pointed to the Command and we have appointed you Capt. Lieutenant,
we request you will attend immediately, should you not accept of
the appointment you'll let us know as soon as possible.

Monday 30th April 1781

James Hutchings was brought before the Board in consequence
of the Warrant which issued against him last Saturday, and the
Charge contained in the said Warrant being read to the said James
Hutchings and the Witness produced against him examined in his
presence and the said James heard in his Defence. It appeared to this
Board as well by the Confession of the said James Hutchings as the
Testimony of the said Witness that the said James Hutchings did on
the 25th Day of this Instant go on board of one of the Ships of War
belonging to the Enemy without Leave of this Board. Thereupon
ordered that the said James Hutchings recognize with one [ ]
Sufficient in the sum of three thousand pounds each for the said James
Hutchings's Appearance before the General Court to be held for the
Eastern Shore on the second Tuesday in September next and not to

depart the same without Leave of the Court.

James Hutchings and Gilbert Middleton severally acknowledge
themselves to owe and stand justly indebted to the State of Maryland
in the full and just sum of three thousand pounds each Gold and
Silver to be levied of their Bodies, Goods, Chattels, Lands and
Tenements in case James Hutchings does not make his personal ap-
pearance at the next General Court to be held on the Eastern Shore
to answer to such Matters and Things as shall then and there be
alledged against him.
John Rawlings of Queen Anns County acknowledges himself to
owe and stand justly indebted to the State of Maryland in the full
and just Sum of five hundred pounds Specie to be levied of his Body,
Goods, Chattels Lands and Tenements in Case he does not make his
personal Appearance at the next General Court to be held on the
Eastern Shore to Testify against James Hutchings charged with
going on board a Vessel belonging to the Enemy without Permission
in writing from the Governor and Council.

We have directed Capt. Edward Day McComas to wait on you
with two Prisoners, William Groves and his Son, William Groves,
who are charged with illicit and treasonable Practices. We beg vou
will order the Prisoners under a proper Guard as Capt. McComas
is solicitous to be releived from his Charge.
