388 Proceedings and Correspondence

April 10
Liber No. 78
p. 118

[Council to Mr. Charles Blake.]

We are really much distressed for fresh Provisions. There was a
Sufficient Supply for this Post until the Detachment under the Mar-
quis Fayette came, which we were obliged to furnish, you will send
all the Salt Provisions in your Possession, immediately to this Place
provided it can be done with Safety of which you will be the best
Judge

Ibid.

[Council to Thomas Sprig, Esqr.]

We wrote you on the third Instant to furnish Col. Wood with such
Numbers of the Militia of your County as he may think necessary
with the Militia indeed from Frederick Town to guard the Conven-
tion Troops to Fort Frederick. In Case Col. Rawlings should have
the Charge of them whilst at Fort Frederick which we hope and
expect he will, we request you to order on Duty so many of the
Militia as he may request to act as a Guard over them which Militia
shall be relieved on Application by you to this Board by other Militia
when their Tour of Duty is done

Ibid.

[Council to Mr. George Murdock.]

Intelligence we have just received renders it necessary the Con-
vention Troops should be removed to Fort Frederick without Delay,
and therefore request you to supply Col Wood with what Provision

may be wanted and to give him your Assistance in obviating every
Difficulty that may arise to prolong their departure. Enclosed you
have an Order on the Collector of Frederick County for one thousand
Dollars of the new Emission. If you cannot procure Provisions or
Purchase Waggons with Teams and Drivers on Hire for the use of
and to assist in the Removal of the Convention Troops we hereby
empower you to impress what may be necessary.

Ibid.

[Council to Col. Rawlings.]

We have wrote to Col. Wood to give you the Command of the
Prisoners ordered into Confinement at Fort Frederick, we hope and
expect our Recommendation will have the desired Effect, should you
be appointed to the Command we request you to take the Direction
of such Militia as may be ordered to guard them, and hereby in such
Case direct all Militia Officers, and Militia Men acting as Guards
over them to obey your Orders which we have no Doubt they will
most chearfully do. In Case you should not be able to procure
Waggons at a reasonable Price we by this empower you to impress
such waggons Teams and Drivers as may be necessary for the
Carriage of Provisions and Fuel for the Prisoners which are or may
hereafter be ordered in your Charge.
