on and establish proper Signals for warning and assembling the
County Militia on the Approach of the Enemy. The Ships left us
last Night and had proceeded down as low as poplar Island when
our Look out Boat returned.

[Council to Mr. William Lyles, Junr.]

We have seen your Proposals relative to the Shads. We agree to
your Terms and expect that you will take particular Care that the
Fish are well cured in every way necessary; and that the Quantity
in each Barrel be marked and your Account delivered in on the Oath
either of yourself or the Person who packs the Fish, we think it will
be best to have one third pickled and two thirds smoaked. We agree
to take sixty thousand or a greater Quantity if you can supply us

with them, for the Salt necessary apply to Mr Henry Eozier who will

on our Order deliver it. If you are disappointed there, borrow
it for the States Account and it shall be repaid.

The Detachment under the Marquis Fayette are on their way to
the Head of Elk, and a Number of Waggons will be absolutely neces-
sary to transport the Stores and Baggage to Christeen. The Marquis
has promised us that he will apportion the Number equally between
this State and the State of Delaware, we therefore request you to
impress as many Waggons Teams and Drivers as he may apply for.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to George Adams
five pounds eighteen shillings due him per Account passed by the

That the said Treasurer pay to Doctr Thomas eighteen shillings for
the use of Francis Pierpoint due him per Account passed by the

That the said Treasurer pay to Jonathan Parker five pounds Seven-
teen shillings & Six pence due him per Account passed by the D. Aud.
That the said Treasurer pay to James Boyle one hundred & five
pounds sixteen shillings and ten pence half penny due him p Acct
passed by the D. Aud.
That the said Treasurer pay to Capt. Thomas Lansdale of the
4th Regt eleven pounds four shillings and five pence due him p Acct
passed by the A. Gl
That the said Treasurer pay to Ensign John Sears of the 2d Regt
nine pounds and six pence three farthings due him per Acct passed
by the D. Aud.
