Virginia the Captain of the said Schooner previous to his Loading on
board any of the said Articles, giving Bond payable to the State in
the penalty of one thousand Pounds Specie Conditioned that if the
said Cargo shall be delivered on board the Fleet of his most. Christian
Majesty or to the American Army in Virginia the Danger of the Seas
and Enemy only excepted and shall within four Months of the Date
of such Bond produce to the Governor and Council of this State a

Certificate under the hand of a Captain or Commanding Officer of
some one of the Ships of War of the said Fleet or of some officer of
higher Rank or of some principal Officer in the American Army
aforesaid of such delivery, then such Bond to be void else of full
force, and the Captain of the said Schooner also making Oath before
the Naval Officer who shall Clear out the said Vessel, at or before
the time of her clearing out that he will use his utmost endeavour to
prevent the said Cargo or any part thereof falling into the hands
of the Enemy and will deliver the same if in his power aggreeably
to this Licence.

We have the Honor of your Letter of the 6th Current and you
may rest assured Sir that any Dispatch that comes to our Hands for
you shall be instantly forwarded. The heavy Cannon which you
request shall be furnished from this Place but the Carriages are out
of repair and we think unfit for service General Gist has promised

to order the three hundred Round of Powder and Ball necessary
for them from Baltimore

Yours of the 8th Instant we have received. It is not in our Power
to supply you with Money as we cannot demand the Sum you require,
hut as the Collectors are called on to pay in their Collections immedi-
ately we shall be enabled to comply with your Request in a few Days,
in the mean Time we wish you to procure by Purchase or Loan as
much Salt as you think necessary for securing the meat Provision
which shall be returned or paid for in a short Time. It is not necessary
at this Time to send forward the Meat to Frederick Town, you will
therefore wait our further Directions thereon. The Appointment of
Auctioneer for Charles County accompanies this

We are in want of Sugar to supply the Army, and request you will
immediately send to this Place our full Proportion of the Foxes
Cargoe. We have been much disappointed in not having our former
requests to this purpose, attended to and flatter ourselves it will not
