That the Issuing Commissary deliver to Capt. Archibald McCallis-
ter seventeen and a half Gallons of Rum, forty five pounds of sugar
and twenty eight pounds of Coffee, and also to Capt. Gilbert Mid-
dleton Ten pounds of Candles.

Philip Casson is hereby appointed Commissary of Purchases for
Caroline County in the room of Nathaniel Potter deceased.

Permission granted to Archibald Buchanan Esquire, to solicit
Leave of His Excellency General Washington or the Commander of
the American Lines to go into New York for the purpose of trans-
acting private Business to return again into this State.

[Council to Messrs. William Smith, Daniel Bowley and other
Merchants in Baltimore.]

The State Boats have returned and to relieve you from the Trou-
ble of procuring an Armed Vessel and stationing her in the Manner
we requested. We have ordered Captain Gilbert Middleton of the
Plater on that Duty and given him Instructions how to conduct
himself to prevent the Vessels from removing out of Patapsco River
and its Branches.

We send you by Mr Longoon 30,000 Pounds Continental Money,
and wish it had been the whole Sum due you which shall be trans-
mitted as soon as we can command it.

[Council to Capt Gilbert Middleton.]

You are to proceed immediately in the State Boat Plater to the
Fort at Baltimore and Station her in such a Manner as to prevent all
Vessels in Patapsco River and its Branches and Creeks except the
Porpus and Nautillis from departing or removing therefrom for
nine Days or you receive our further Order to the contrary.

Murray one hundred Pounds of the new Emission on Account.
That the said Treasurer pay to Captain William Middleton thirty
nine pounds eleven shillings & three pence of the same Emission in
lieu of fifteen hundred & eighty two pounds ten shillings p Account
passed by the Aucl. Genl

Chever two pounds nineteen shillings and seven pence half penny
of the New Emission, in lieu of one hundred and nineteen pounds
