[Don'1 Yeates, Elk, to Gov. Lee.]
Hond Sir having informed you of my situation in the Quarter
Masters department in regard to forage, I was in hopes as the Genl
Assembly is setting of meeting assistance; still in hopes a Supply
may be procured; the situation I am in obliges me to renew my ap-
plication; I am informed the State supplys is all the dependance;
I have not recd any short forage or pay from this State tho' the
season is thus far Advanced, the Perishable part of the property
now in my Possession is suffering much for want, on the draught
horses the business of forwarding the Stores and provisions both to
the Northern and Southern Armys solely depends; much business
is now required in transporting Stores to the southwd by Orders
from M. G. Green; I am entirely out of forage at this Post and
Baltimore where there is the greatest necessity of supplying the wag-
gons passing on to Alexandria. Permit me to Appeal to you for
your Aid and Assistance in this matter. I am Apprehensive owing
to the want of money and other dificulties that it won't be in my
Power ere long to forward the flow'r and other Provisions unless
I can gain forage soon; to keep up the teams and Supply some Pri-
vate teams willing to hire if forage is found them. Agreeable to
your directions I have forwarded all the cattle that has been deliv-
ered me; but have been Embarrased in the delivery in Philada on
accot of the Cattle coming in poor and unfit for present Use Colo
Hollingsworth informed me he had orders not to deliver on terms
of discrimination at this Post, the Board of Warr has taken up this
matter; and ordered all that is unfit for use to be disposed of, as not
being Agreable to the requisition of supply for this State I have
Just recd twenty two head that came in from St Marys County all
Poor I refer you to Colo Hollingsworth for a report of them
