one third. I flatter myself your Excelly will see this in the Light I
do & alter it before the Brig sets sail.
The time before the Ice generally sets in, is so short, that it would
be in vain to attempt loading her by immediate purchase. I have
therefore borrow'd the flour & flatter myself the Treasury will be
soon Capable of furnishing the Money to replace Should there be
Tobacco Notes in the Treasury, I Hope we shall have a preference
to them before other Claimes

Sir Cap" Conway being from Home, I Have the Honour To
Acknowledge the rect of your Excellency's Letter to him of 1st Inst
by Jeremiah Clifford, from whome Mrs Conway Recd (for your
Acct) the sum of £24784.. 7.. 6 Your Curry for which he has got
her Rect
On Examining the Bundles I found a Deficiency of five hundred
& Seventy five Dollars in No 13, the list of which you have inclosed,
By it I Expect you will be Able to find out the Person who paid it you
As these are the Initial letters of his name marked thereon. I have
made notes of the Error in the Margin of the List, but least they
might not be sufficiently Explained, have added a Copy at Bottom
Instead of 29 Bills @ 50 but 28 9 do @ 45 but 2 54 do @ 30
but 47

[Wm Whitely, Caroline County, to Governor and Council recom-
mends Philip Carson to succeed the deceased commissary of pur-
chases for that county.]

[Rich'd Mason, Caroline County, to Gov. Lee.]

Sr Our number of Magistrates in this County is reduced to six
and them not well situated in the County to do the Business, and as
we sopose your Excelency to be onacquainted with the People of
this County we did at our last Court since the Deth of Mr Potter
consult one another who we should recommend to be aded to the
Commission that would best answer the purpose of doing the Pub-
lick business of the County and did agree that if Mr Thomas Golds-
borough should meet with your Excelencys and Honours approba-
tion, to have him first mentioned in the Commission and Messrs
Thomas Nowell Zebulon Potter and Joseph Dugless to be aded to
those allready in the Commission

[David Poe, Balt, to His Excellency Governor Lee.]

Sir If your Excellency has now on Hand the Tobacco that you
had in the Warehouse at this place, when I last had the Honour of
