[Pat Sim Smith, Calvert to Gov Lee]

Dear Sir Inclosed is the most accurate Account I can at present
render of my purchase of provision in this County, I'm sorry it has
been delayed so long but t'was not in my power to prevent it.
The purchase is all in wheat, there was no Salt provision to be had,
and I could not engage Beeff on the Hoof for want of Cash, indeed
the price asked was such that I could not make a Contract without
further Instructions, there is more wheat to be purchased had I
cash to pay for it, but fear I shall not have enough to comply with
the Contracts already made the Collectors falling short some fifteen
hundred pounds of the order I had on them
The account now sent I hope will be Sufficient at this time, twill
shew the Quantity of wheat purchased & in what manner, which I
suppose is all thats required. I shall be happy in carrying your
further commands
