Sir I have sent Under care of Mr Robert Greenwell Fourty Four
Steers Agreeable to the Return Coll. Barnes will Deliver your
Excellency.
I have not money sufficient to carry them to the Head of Elk have
therefore directed Mr Greenwell to call on your Excellency for a
Supply, I've furnished him with seven Hundred Dollars which was
all the Continental currency I had. I have not Received the money
for the Orders I had on the Collectors, by Three Thousand Pounds
or I could have forwarded them without Troubling your Excellency.
I have given an order on the commissaries Between this and the
Head of Elk to furnish them with Provisions and forage but as your
Excellencies would be much better I should be Glad of it.

Sir At the request of Colo Thompson I have to inform you that
William Mahoney & Charles Shirkey two of the Recruits for this
County are now in Carlile Goal in Cumberland County, this infor-
mation comes by a man who took them up & delivered them to the
Goaler in their rout to the back woods. It is probable that they will
be discharged unless sent after soon. By this Conveyance the Gov-
ernor receives a return of recruits in this County
Note You have here inclosed the Enlistmts of Sundry recruits
sent to Chester which perhaps may be wanting also two Certificates
from Colo Dallam the Enlistmts of those who are in this County &
Deserters before Ordered to Chester Town are not sent & stil in the
hands of the Lieutt

Sir I Inclosed you my returns of Provision for this County yes-
terday, and on recollection an addition is wanting to the account of
£5 pr Bll also the freight from Susquehanna to Elk, which is not in
my Power at this time to ascertain a further account of which I will
transmit you next week with a few Beefs

Thos S. Lee, Esqr.]
Sir Col Rawlings at Fort Frederick has orders to call in all the
Prisoners in the neighbourhood of his post, & in future to keep
them in close confinement, as the greatest evils have been experi-
enced from a contrary conduct
