Power to make out and deliver to the Sheriff the Executions for
recovering the 15 p Cent so soon as the Act of Assembly required.
Mr Gray, who will deliver you this, can inform you why the money
hasn't been collected since he recd the Executions. I have received
upwards of two thousand pounds. 1500 of which was paid for a
Recruit, and some of the rest for removing the Arms from the lower
part of the County, and sending a Deserter to Anns but that none of
it has been applied in procuring Provision I believe a considerable
part will be, as soon as the Sheriff can begin upon his Collection

Sir Though we have not the honor of being known to your Ex-
cellency we take the freedom of addressing to you under the auspices
& at the desire of our old most pticulard friend & Correspond Mr
Stephen Steward, West river, relative to a bill of Exchange No I
drawn by your State on Messrs Osgood Hanbury, Silvanus Grove
& James Russell State Agents in London for. £1500 stl. Pursuant;
to our friend Mr Steward's directions we got it presented as quick
as possible by very p'ticulard friends of ours in London Messrs
French & Hobson, & wrote ourselves at same time to the above three
Gentlemen who unanimously refused accepting & accordingly we
now inclose you the Protest, their answer to our letters we have in
Cource forwarded to his Excellency Benjn Franklin Esqr to whom
we also had the honor of Corresponding on the occasion, as well as
with Wm Carmichael Esqr & the other Trustees, in short your Excel-
lency may depend tht we spared no pains in our power in order to
procure payment for said bill, as we sho'd most Certainly have had
great pleasure in giving you the utmost satisfaction in the manage-
ment of yr business & Convincing your Excellency the great atten-
tion we shall pay in executing my orders confided to our Care by
you & the members of the State we hold ourselves p'ticularly obliged
to our good friend Mr Steward for having procured an opportunity
of addressing to you

7th Instant By Capt Carlisle with £62.. 10. New Omission I Pre-
sented The Order you Inclosed me to Mr William Smith who In-
forms me he sent all the Linnen and Shirts he had purchased off for
Philada By The Last Packett. He has Desired some person to Pur-
chase Linnen for him in Virginia he says the First he Can Get he
will Deliver me
