person from whom I have purchased these sums are so inconsider-
able part of the purchase it will be impossible for me to proceed
without a farther Supply Mr Elie Williams Clerk of this County
informs me has 12800 Dollars Ordinary Licence Money in his
hands which he intends paying into the treasury by the 1st of Novr
& is wills to pay it to your order which I hope you'll send me by
Mr Clagett. I shall use my utmost endeavrs to compleat the purchase
as soon as possible which I dont dispair of doing in a short time pro-
vided you furnish me with money

[Moses Rawlings Fort Frederick to His Excellency
Thos S. Lee Esqr]

Sir I have the honour to acquaint your Excellency that since I
receiv'd your favour of 22d August that I have been all through this
County in order to purchase Provision, But Cannot make the least
Contract with Either Certificates or the new bills of Credit, Every
ones Cry is money. I am sorry to say that I cannot find a man in
this County that will Trust the Public for one Bushel of wheat, this
Article I have Every reason To beleave may be Bought for 40 Dolls
pr Bushel, Beef I doubt will far Exceed the price allowed by Congress.
I have receivd a great deal of Wheat For the last Tax, but no
Beeff. have given the Miller Directions to have the wheat ground
& Packd as fast as Possible, your Excellency will be pleased To send
me directions about the Flour, and if I am to hire Teams for the
Conveyance of it to Baltimore or not.
I hope tis now in your Excellcy Power To send me a supply of
Cash, by the return of our high Sheriff from the general Court
which will be a good oppertunity

[Sam Huntington, President, Philadelphia, to His Excellency
Governor Lee.]

Sir I am directed by Congress to inform you that a Letter hath
been received from the Commander in Chief at Head Quarters,
representing that the Army must again be reduced to Extremity for
want of Flour except a Supply should arrive in a few Days.
It is therefore the earnest request of Congress that what remains
of the Quota of Flour from your State may be sent on with all possi-
ble Dispatch

[Jas Calhoun, Baltimore to His Excellency Thos S. Lee, Esqr.]

Sir I received your Excellencies favour of yesterday & shall not
fail to make the return at the time required.
The persons I appointed to receive Provision for the Assessmt
hath not yet furnished me with an Accot of what has been delivered
but I believe it is very trifling as there was no inducement to pay
